Born in 1972, Laurent Gaudé studied Modern Letters and Theatrical Studies in Paris. In 1997, he published his first play, Onysos le furieux, at Théâtre Ouvert. This first text will be edited in 2000 at the Théâtre National de Strasbourg in a production by Yannis Kokkos. Then followed years devoted to theatrical writing, with in particular Pluie de cendres, performed at the Studio de la Comédie Française, Combat de Possédés, translated and performed in Germany, Médée Kali, performed at the Théâtre du Rond-Point, Les Sacrifiés, created at the Théâtre des Amandiers in Nanterre, Caillasses, created at the Théâtre du Peuple in Bussang, or Danse, Morob, created in Dublin.
His first novel, Cris, was published in 2001. With The Death of King Tsongor, in 2002 he won the Goncourt Prize for High School Students and the Prize for Bookstores. In 2004, he won the Goncourt Prize for Le Soleil des Scorta, a novel translated into 34 countries.
Since 2008, he regularly works with contemporary composers for whom he writes texts or opera libretto: Roland Auzet (Mille Orphelins), Thierry Pécou (Les Sacrifiés), Kris Defoort (Daral Shaga), Thierry Escaich (Cris) and Michel Petrossian (Le Chant d'Archak).
He is also the author of two collections of short stories, Dans la nuit Mozambique and Les Oliviers du Négus and books in collaboration with photographers: Oan Kim (Je suis le chien Pitié) and Gaël Turine (Down the city).
Since 2013, he has also made trips (Port-au-Prince, Iraqi Kurdistan or the Calais jungle) which have given rise to reports. From these experiences, he will also draw a first collection of poems, De sang et de lumière, published in 2017.
RODRIGUE NORMAN, director
Director and playwright born in 1980, Rodrigue Norman is originally from Togo where he very early became known for his plays created within his company "les 3C" and distributed across Africa, France, England and the Czech Republic.
Dramaturge, he was the winner of several grants (Beaumarchais in 2005, Wallonie Bruxelles Théâtre in 2006, and SACD France in 2010) and published Trans'aheliennes (Lansman, 2004), Tobbie, brothers and sisters have pain (Lansman, 2005) Chronicle of the years of leaving (Discoveries of Burkina, 2008).
A director, he has created several of his plays and those of other authors. The most striking is Ndo Kela or the aborted initiation of Koulsy Lamko co-produced by the Comédie Française and presented in 2005 at the Théâtre du Vieux-Colombier in Paris.
In 2006, after a stay of five years in Belgium and following a reflection born of his theatrical practice in Africa and his passage to the INSAS (staging section), he left to create his theater school in Togo ( School of the Lomé Art Theater Studio) where several theater professionals from all over the world and Togolese theater enthusiasts met and exchanged their practices and experiences for three years.
